Issue fourteen of Cloonan and Belanger's sci-fi horror series delivers one of the more unsettling cover images you'll find on shelves in 2018 — a massive, tentacle-maned creature with glowing yellow eyes, gnashing fangs, and an eerie third eye looms front and center, bathed in a sickly green pallor against a dim, atmospheric background. Belanger's linework is dense and deeply textured, with Loughridge's moody colors amplifying every grotesque detail of this otherworldly entity. If Southern Cross has been building toward something genuinely frightening, this cover makes a strong case that issue fourteen is where the dread peaks.
