Son of Ambush Bug #1

The cover by Keith Giffen and Bob Oksner says it all: a green-skinned, yellow-shirted figure stands in bewildered dishevelment while a small red toy-like character looks on from below — and the page itself is gleefully plastered with breathless marketing parody, from "Must Have Double-Bag Item!" to "Is He Man — or Monster?" This opening chapter of DC's six-part 1986 mini-series captures Ambush Bug's singular talent for skewering the comics industry from the inside out, with writer-artist Keith Giffen and co-writer Robert Loren Fleming clearly having a grand time doing it. If you've got a taste for fourth-wall-bending absurdity, this is a very fine place to start.
