Soil #8
Atsushi Kaneko's unsettling mystery series continues with this eighth volume, its cover setting a quietly eerie tone: a young schoolgirl sits alone at a desk in an otherwise empty classroom, while two adult figures — a man in a suit and a woman — linger in the background amid rows of vacant seats. The monochromatic, dusky palette gives the scene a haunting stillness that captures exactly what makes Soil so compelling — something is deeply, calmly wrong. Published in 2016 by Panini Comics under their Planet Manga imprint, this is a fine entry point into one of contemporary manga's most atmospheric slow-burn thrillers.
