Smiley Burnette stumbles onto a plot by a criminal named Honest Tom and his gang, who are using rustling and robbery to finance their operations. After Smiley is caught and interrogates the gang members, he learns of their scheme and manages to escape. Smiley then pursues the criminals through a series of adventures, including encounters with a weather prediction and a thunderstorm that threatens to stampede cattle, ultimately tracking the gang to a mountain hideaway where their true criminal operation is revealed.
