Smiley Burnette, editor of Burnette's Bugle, finds himself in a series of escalating mishaps after a mysterious brick attack and a fake newspaper edition falsely accuses Honest Tom, the town’s top lawyer, of being a crook. As Honest Tom storms toward Smiley’s office, furious and armed, Smiley narrowly escapes only to discover his rival, Fibber Feegeans, has sabotaged his press, leading to a chaotic confrontation when Honest Tom’s men arrive at the wrong location.

Red Eagle, newly named chief of the Canugas, ventures into the dark forest after a young boy goes missing, only to find himself surrounded by a pack of ravenous timber wolves. With the boy safe but trapped in the woods, Red Eagle uses quick thinking and his lariat to set clever snares, hoping to outwit the predators before dawn. As the wolves close in, he prepares a desperate trap to protect the child and himself.

With his wits slowly returning, Smiley must navigate the chaos of the mountain throne while trying to outsmart the real criminal behind the scheme.

Halfwit Hack is surprised when a stranger claims he’s forgotten his name—only to reveal that the man is actually named Green, not Brown. The man insists he’s been called Brown for years, leading to a moment of confusion when he admits he’s color blind and can’t tell the difference between colors.
