Rocky, the Backwoods Boy, lives a carefree existence with his pet bear Brownie until fur poachers disrupt his wilderness home, prompting him to take action. The issue features two main stories: in the first, Rocky encounters strangers approaching by canoe on a wild river and must defend himself and his animal companions; in the second, a historical narrative titled "The Deep," pirates attempt underwater salvage work using divers with oxyacetylene blowlamps, while Dan risks his life to save his father from the pirate craft. A third story, "The Black Prince in Action," depicts medieval knights led by King Philip engaging in battle against insurgent forces, with the young Prince Edward ultimately proving his combat prowess on the field.
