In "Byen under isen!", Dr. Wallace B. Peterson’s ambition leads him to murder his colleague, Professor Strauss, in a bid to claim glory for uncovering a lost civilization beneath the Antarctic ice. Captured by the ancient, monstrous inhabitants of that hidden world, he is imprisoned and forced to endure years of interrogation as they seek to understand the outside world. After a long and harrowing escape, he returns to civilization—only to find himself slowly dissolving into water, his body betraying him as he becomes something no longer human.
