Lash LaRue, a roving marshal, is called to Carson Gulch to investigate a string of mysterious deaths—seven in two weeks—that townspeople blame on a vampire. With fang marks on victims' necks and all their blood drained, the evidence points to something supernatural, especially when a dead hand at the heavily fenced Bar Z Ranch shows signs no ordinary wolf could have crossed the barriers. Suspicion falls on the local undertaker, but when Lash and the undertaker's night assistant discover the truth in a hidden cellar beneath the funeral parlor, they find the case is far from solved.
