Silver Surfer: Black #2

Tradd Moore's cover for issue #2 of this 2019 miniseries captures the Silver Surfer tumbling inverted through deep space, his chrome form rendered in cool blues and whites as he falls past an enormous gas giant — Jupiter-like in its swirling amber bands — with a second planet visible below and a yawning black void pulling at him. There's something genuinely unsettling about seeing the cosmic wanderer so clearly off-balance, hurtling rather than soaring, with dark tendrils creeping from his fingertips. With Donny Cates writing and Dave Stewart's painterly color work complementing Moore's fluid linework, Silver Surfer: Black continues to feel like one of 2019's most visually distinctive cosmic adventures.
