The series launched in June 1992 under writer Gregory Wright and penciler Steven Butler, with editor Craig Anderson shepherding the book under Editor-in-Chief Tom DeFalco. Issue #2 arrived just one month after the debut, maintaining the same tight creative team of Wright, Butler, and inker Jim Sanders III — a continuity of craft that helped establish an early visual and tonal identity for the book. The series itself grew directly out of Silver Sable's popularity as a recurring Spider-Man supporting character, where her Wild Pack had functioned as undifferentiated muscle; giving those operatives individual names, skills, and story roles was a deliberate expansion that began in earnest with these first issues.
