AfterShock's Shock anthology arrives in 2018 as a handsome hardcover collection, and John Cassaday's cover sets the tone beautifully: a dapper skeleton bartender in a red vest and bow tie tends an otherworldly bar, surrounded by mysterious labeled bottles, a lurking dragon, a ghoulish face, and tentacles creeping overhead — equal parts macabre and oddly inviting. Among the stories inside is "Witch Work," crafted by writer Paul Jenkins, artist Dalibor Talajić, inker Stipe Kalajžić, colorist Seb Čamagajevac, and letterer Marshall Dillon. If you're looking for sophisticated horror comics with genuine craft behind them, this is a fine place to pull up a stool.
