The final issue of Ed Brisson and Johnnie Christmas's unsettling "pre-apocalyptic tale" closes with a cover as haunting as the series itself — a snow-swept night scene where a shirtless figure staggers forward, arms outstretched, while two smaller figures loom in the background against bare, skeletal trees. Christmas's stark linework and Shari Chankhamma's cold blue palette give the image a raw, elemental dread that perfectly captures the survivalist tension Sheltered has sustained throughout its run. A fitting send-off for one of Image Comics' more quietly gripping series of 2015.
