This 1978 installment of Shazam! The World's Mightiest Mortal delivers a charged cover by Alan Weiss that puts the Marvel Family in sharp moral conflict. Captain Marvel Jr. lunges furiously at Captain Nazi — his swastika-emblazoned uniform making the villain's allegiance unmistakable — while Captain Marvel intervenes, grabbing Junior and warning him that killing, even a murderer, crosses a line he won't allow. The tension between vengeance and heroic restraint crackles right there on the cover, and with the story titled "The Führer of Chicago," writer E. Nelson Bridwell clearly isn't pulling punches about the darkness these champions are up against.
