Seven to Eternity #12

The penultimate stretch of Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña's sprawling fantasy epic arrives with issue #12, and the cover alone makes a striking case for why Seven to Eternity has earned such devoted readership. Opeña renders a towering, tentacled figure in a dark cloak looming over a pale, bald figure below — the contrast between the alien, purple creature in red-trimmed attire and the vulnerable form beneath it radiating quiet menace and weight. Matt Hollingsworth's muted, ink-wash palette gives the whole image a haunting, almost painterly quality that sets this 2018 series apart from anything else on the shelf.
