Servitude #3

The third and concluding volume of Bourgier and David's Servitude arrives in 2012 with a cover that speaks to weary authority — an aging warrior-king, clad in chainmail and resting a sword across his knees, sits enthroned aboard what appears to be a great ship, a medieval fortress looming in the pale distance behind him. Eric Bourgier's restrained, sepia-toned artwork gives the scene a quiet gravity that suits the subtitle perfectly: Het afscheid van de koningen — "The Farewell of the Kings." It's a fittingly contemplative image to close out this medieval saga from Daedalus.
