Tras la muerte de su padre, con quien había vivido durante dieciséis años en Canadá, Joyce viaja a Europa para reunirse con su madre, a quien no ve desde que era niña. Su madre es Carol Brand, una famosa actriz. Pero Joyce no sabe que su madre se ha retirado al campo tras quedar discapacitada a causa de un accidente y su doble ha ocupado su lugar.
