History

The series was announced by Marvel in June 2024 as part of the X-Men: From the Ashes publishing initiative, with writer Alex Paknadel (previously known for Red Goblin) and artist Justin Mason (Spider-Punk) brought on to explore the human wreckage left behind by decades of Marvel crossover events. Paknadel has stated publicly that his creative entry point was treating the Sentinel team as victims themselves — soldiers experimented on, patched together with nanotech, and anesthetized — rather than straightforward antagonists, a deliberate inversion of the program's historical role as an instrument of fear and human supremacy. Issue #2, titled 'Let Me Take You Down,' was released November 20, 2024 with a cover date of January 2025, and was edited under Tom Brevoort with C.B. Cebulski as Editor-in-Chief.
