This is the first volume of the manga adaptation of Nahoko Uehara's fantasy novel series Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, published in Asahi Shimbun's compact bunkoban edition. It collects the opening chapters of the story, introducing the spear-wielding bodyguard Balsa as she takes on the mission to protect the young prince Chagum, who is possessed by a water spirit.
