Sea of Sorrows #5

The penultimate issue of IDW's deep-sea horror series arrives with a cover that's genuinely unsettling: a monstrous, partially decayed female figure crouches in a rusted ship's hatchway, bathed in crimson light, her hollow eyes and clawed hands reaching toward the viewer. Alex Cormack's painted artwork makes superb use of darkness and decay, letting teal and red fight for dominance across the figure's deteriorating form. Rich Douek, Cormack, and Justin Birch have built one of 2021's more atmospheric horror series, and this image alone signals that the finale is closing in fast.
