Scribbly #2

The second installment of Jean-Paul Arends' Dutch all-ages series Scribbly arrives with a cover subtitle that translates to "I Never Understand Them" — and the cover art delivers exactly that bemused energy. Arends illustrates a small round-headed kid absorbed in a newspaper while a lumpy green creature, a mysterious hovering red mask with glowing eyes, and a little animated scrap of paper look on with varying degrees of concern. It's a wonderfully odd little gathering that showcases Arends' loose, charming character design at its most playful.
