In "The Scrapyard Detectives and the Case of the Missing Roses," the young sleuths take on their most puzzling mystery yet when the carefully tended rose beds of new neighbor Lisan Khatib are mysteriously destroyed. With Robert’s latest invention—a flying rocket scooter—still buzzing in their minds, the team sets out to uncover who would vandalize the flowers and why, all while navigating their first real interaction with their new neighbors. Written and illustrated by Bill Galvan, with lettering by Dave Lanphear and contributions from Michael T. Gilbert and Jack Purcell on the cover, this 2007 collection launch blends suburban intrigue with the charm of a classic mystery, all wrapped in a distinctive visual style.

After trying out Robert's newest invention (a flying rocket scooter) during the 16th meeting of the Scrapyard Detectives, Jinn mentions that the Khatibs have moved into the neighborhood and that they should meet and welcome them. Lisan Khatib shows the Detectives the rose beds his parents planted to commemorate the day they moved into the house. But someone rips up the flower beds, and the Detectives resolve to find out who did it, and why.
