“Read All About It!”

Close Encounters of the Spooky Kind!" sets the tone perfectly for this 2010 DC Kids issue, as the cover — penciled and inked by Vince DePorter — shows a terrified Shaggy clinging to an equally rattled Scooby-Doo while a pair of enormous, glowing alien eyes loom ominously out of the dark, starry sky above them. Shaggy's speech bubble — "Like, I don't want to believe!" — is a great comic riff on the duo's trademark cowardice. With interior work by writer John Rozum and artist Scott Neely, issue #156 looks like a thoroughly fun read for fans of the gang's signature mix of spooky atmosphere and goofy charm.
