Scooby-Doo #1

Cover artist Lee Weeks stages a wonderfully tense scene in a darkened forest, where Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo are huddled together in wide-eyed alarm — while a sinister skull perches on a nearby post and a shadowy reaching hand looms from the trees. Even a pint-sized Scrappy-Doo plants his feet defiantly at the front, apparently the only one ready to face whatever lurks in the gloom. Archie Comics launched this Hanna-Barbera title in October 1995 with a cover that perfectly captures the mix of humor and spooky atmosphere that makes these characters so enduring.
