“Fur and Fangs!”

DC's gritty reimagining of Mystery Inc. continues in issue #4 of Scooby Apocalypse, and Jim Lee's cover alone makes a strong case for how far this gang has come from their Saturday-morning roots. The entire team is assembled here — a masked, heavily armed Daphne looming at the center, a tense Fred and a bearded, sandwich-clutching Shaggy flanking her, Velma crouching low with her tablet and oversized goggles, and a tech-enhanced Scooby-Doo peering out from the foreground — all rendered with Lee's sharp, kinetic detail against a swirling blue-black backdrop. With Giffen and DeMatteis writing and Howard Porter on interior art, "Fur and Fangs!" promises the same energetic blend of action and dark humor this series has been delivering in 2016.
