School Friend #176 is an anthology containing three stories. "Secret Member of the Silent Three" follows Betty Roland, Joan Derwent, and Perry West as members of a secret society at Island School who attempt to salvage a vital beacon from the sea-bed; Diana Graham, a poor diver who had previously failed at the task, is rescued by the three and helps them retrieve the beacon to a lighthouse. "Lonely Boy of Lonely Isle" by Hazel Armitage tells of Lynne, who discovers a mysterious lonely boy living on a bleak Scottish island and attempts to learn why he avoids contact with the mainland and people. "Nina—The News Reel Girl" by Jane Preston features Nina Taylor, a young film photographer at the Maybank Agency, who must complete a wedding film while dealing with her demanding boss Mr. Maybank and unexpected complications that arise during her assignment.
