The series was announced at New York Comic Con in October 2023 during a Marvel livestream hosted by Creative VP Ryan Penagos, with writer Steve Orlando and editor Alanna Smith revealing it as the next evolution of Orlando's hit Scarlet Witch solo run. Orlando brought along his existing interior artist Lorenzo Tammetta, while superstar cover artist Russell Dauterman — who had drawn interiors on the preceding solo series — returned exclusively for covers, lending the mini a prestige aesthetic consistent with the broader run.
