“The Man Within”

Alan Davis and Mark Farmer deliver a cover that puts the Hulk front and center in full roaring fury, fist raised and muscles straining against a cascade of shattered rock — with the original X-Men lineup (Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Iceman, and Beast) and the Avengers' Giant-Man visible in the background, all bracing for whatever comes next. It's a wonderfully kinetic composition that nods to a Marvel era when these two teams shared the same chaotic corner of the universe. "The Man Within" promises something more than smashing, and this first issue is a fine place to see what Davis — pulling triple duty as writer and artist alongside Farmer's inks and Matt Hollingsworth's colors — has in store.
