Samber #6
Yslaire's Samber reaches its sixth chapter with "De zee, gezien vanuit het vagevuur..." — "The sea, seen from purgatory..." — a title that perfectly matches the brooding, rust-toned atmosphere Yslaire conjures on this 2011 cover. Two young figures dominate the foreground — a dark-haired woman with sharp, expressive features and a lighter-haired companion — while a cloaked silhouette and a lighthouse loom behind them, seagulls wheeling overhead against a smoldering, crimson sky. It's a hauntingly beautiful composition that speaks to themes of longing and liminal spaces, rendered entirely by Yslaire's own hand from pencils to inks.
