George Baker's cover for this Harvey Comics entry says it all with one perfectly timed gag: Sad Sack has been launched skyward off what appears to be a water slide or wave, stars flying around his stunned head, while a stocky sergeant-type in a yellow shirt watches from the shallows with an expression of bemused satisfaction. It's the kind of breezy, sun-soaked slapstick that made this series a genuine crowd-pleaser — "loved by millions," as the cover itself cheerfully reminds us. For a dime in 1959, you couldn't ask for a more entertaining snapshot of America's favorite put-upon everyman.
