Sad Sack Comics #83

Harvey's lovable hard-luck soldier finds himself in quite the cosmic pickle on this 1958 cover by George Baker — the hapless Sad Sack stands wide-eyed on a glowing orb hurtling through a star-filled sky, clutching what appears to be a small device while boxy green machines loom on either side of him, lightning bolts crackling all around. It's a wonderfully absurd scene that captures everything endearing about the character the cover proudly bills as "Loved by Millions." At just a dime, this Harvey Comics gem offers a charming slice of late-1950s humor with Baker's expressive, rubbery linework in fine form.
