Harvey's long-running everyman soldier returns in this June 1955 issue, with a cover by George Baker that perfectly captures the humor that made Sad Sack "loved by millions." The big Army Band bass drum dominates the scene, with one hapless soldier enthusiastically hammering away at it while Sad Sack himself has simply dozed off leaning against the other side — snoring right through the whole performance. It's a wonderfully relatable gag, the kind of weary, deadpan comedy that made this series a staple of mid-1950s comics.
