“Blind Date”

Harvey's long-running army comedy is in fine form with this 1953 entry, promising readers "28 Fun-Packed Pages" and heralding that Sad Sack is "Back in the Army Again!" The cover by George Baker captures the hapless hero's rotten luck perfectly — obliviously daydreaming that "Gosh! Nothing ever happens to me!" while, just behind him, a kid with a slingshot has sent an MP flying through the air in a burst of stars and sparks. It's a wonderfully absurd gag that sets the tone for the kind of cheerful, good-natured mayhem that made this series a staple of the Harvey Comics lineup.
