Sad Sack Comics #277

Harvey's long-running everyman comedy series reaches issue #277 with a perfectly chaotic baseball scene rendered by Ken Selig — the hapless Sad Sack slides headlong into home plate in a cloud of dust, sending the catcher leaping into the air while teammates look on helplessly from the outfield. The bold "SLIDE" sound effect and the ball bouncing just out of reach capture everything endearing about this strip's brand of good-natured, hard-luck humor. At 50 cents in 1980, it's a warm slice of comic-book comedy that's been "loved by millions" for good reason.
