Sad Sack Comics #184

Harvey Comics' long-running military comedy series is in fine form with this 1966 installment, and the cover by George Baker says it all: the hapless Sad Sack sits starry-eyed at a candlelit restaurant table, hearts floating above his head as he presents a flaming dollar bill to a curly-haired blonde date — while a towering, exasperated waiter looms nearby clutching an enormous bill, and a gruff sergeant dines alone at his own table in the corner. Even a little dog and a child join the chaotic scene down below, making this a wonderfully busy snapshot of Sad Sack's perpetually unlucky pursuit of romance and dignity.
