Sad Sack Comics #135

Harvey's long-running soldier comedy series delivers another round of misfortune in this 1962 installment, cover by George Baker. The cover finds the hapless Sad Sack launching himself through an explosion of hay and sparks — mouth agape in pure alarm — while his little dog scrambles nearby, an elderly farmer looks on in bewilderment wielding a pitchfork, and another soldier ducks for cover in a haystack. With the story titled "Inventor," it's easy to imagine what kind of contraption set this chain of chaos in motion, and Baker's lively linework makes every star-burst and puff of smoke pop right off the page.
