Rumble #3
That striking contrast between delicate beauty and unsettling menace is pure Rumble — a grotesque, glowing-eyed creature with a jagged maw sits low to the ground on an arid savanna, while a monarch butterfly perches serenely on its head as if nothing is amiss. Wildflowers bloom in the foreground and baobab-like trees punctuate the dusty horizon, lending the scene an almost pastoral calm that makes the monster's presence all the more wonderfully disquieting. James Harren's creature design is viscerally expressive, and Dave Stewart's warm, sun-baked palette gives this 2015 Image series a visual identity unlike anything else on the shelf.
