This November 1956 Dell issue puts Roy Rogers front and center in a striking photo cover, crouched low in the grass with a pistol aimed straight at the reader — his fringed Western jacket, bold red neckerchief, and white Stetson making for a genuinely arresting image. The intensity on his face suggests trouble is very much afoot, setting the mood perfectly for the interior tale, "The Pack Train Mystery." With Gaylord Du Bois writing and John Buscema on art (inked by Mario Acquaviva), this is a fine slice of mid-1950s Western comics storytelling.
