The second volume of this atmospheric Belgian series finds the crimson-masked figure descending into a torch-lit underground charnel house, surrounded by skulls and skeletal remains that line the walls and floor in eerie abundance. André Juillard's cover art bathes the scene in warm amber and deep shadow, giving the masked, caped protagonist an air of grim purpose as he ventures deeper into this macabre setting. Published by Glénat in 1986 with a story titled "Het knekelhuis der onnozele kinderen," this is European comics storytelling at its most evocatively unsettling.
