Although Johnny is friendly with Kay, he is always buying flowers for Susan Webb, the prettiest, wittiest and richest girl in town. He has to leave on a longish trip, but pays in advance to have the red roses continued to be delivered while he is at sea. When he returns he asks Kay out, but she isn't sure what to say as she catches a headline saying that Susan Webb is to be wed.
