“Just a Smile Away From Loving You”

In "Just a Smile Away From Loving You," a simple ride on a motorcycle takes a sudden turn when Susie is thrown off after a near-miss with a dog, landing her in the hospital with a broken leg. What starts as a lonely stretch of recovery turns unexpectedly lively as the boy she was meant to date—and the very same boy who caused her fall—both show up at her bedside, each hoping to win her time and attention. A quiet moment of vulnerability becomes a surprising test of connection, all set against the quiet backdrop of a 1974 British comic.

Susie asks for a lift from the boy next door on his motorcycle when she is late for a date. She is thrown from the bike when it swerves to avoid hitting a dog. Laying in the hospital bed with a broken leg, she thinks her month-long stay will be like a prison sentence from the boredom. But the boy driving the motorcycle, the boy she was going to date, and the boy she hit when she flew off the bike all come to visit her in the hospital and set up dates with her.
