Joe suffers a broken leg, but should be able to recover and play again. Meanwhile, he is conflicted about how he feels about Nancy and Mary Jo. After the cast is removed from his leg, Joe receives a letter from Charlie where Charlie confesses that he put sleeping pills in Joe's drink the night before United's big match. Thinking Joe was drunk, he had been dropped from the team.
