A woman in a nightclub reflects on her failed romance with a man named Bill, whom she met during a carefree period in her life but ultimately lost because he was a playboy interested only in nightlife and gossip. Desperate and stranded without money for rent or meals, she takes a job as a hostess at a café, where the manager offers her an opportunity to work at Carver's Farm picking fruit for wages. When she and two other girls accept the farm job, their car is stripped clean of belongings by thieves, prompting them to decide not to report the theft to authorities but instead to complete their work and move forward.
