Jan feels Diane has an advantage in a piano competition because Diane's father is a mine superintendent and hers is just a miner. Jan stirs up the miners and they demand fair play; the board members are intimidated and unjustly award Jan the prize. Mine inspector Chris, who Jan is interested in, is upset at Jan’s attitude. Jan becomes jealous of Chris’s friendship with Diane and is envious when Diane goes on a concert tour. The miners take up a collection to finance a tour by Jan but she admits she isn’t talented enough and won’t take their money. Chris and Jan reconcile.
