Romantic Secrets #11

The cover pulls you right into a hospital room scene — a bandaged patient smiles hopefully from his bed while a blonde nurse in the foreground holds a heartbreaking Dear John letter from "Jane," announcing her engagement to another man, her thought bubble quietly confessing, "Oh! How cruel… and I love him so…" It's a quietly devastating snapshot of tangled hearts, perfectly suited to the confessional romance storytelling of 1950.

24-year-old Laura teaches high school and is treated “like one of the gang” by her students, especially the boys. Dan, the older brother of Jerry, one of the students, says Laura should socialize with people her age. Her lack of “dignity” also threatens her job. Dan and Laura fall in love. When Jerry is caught embracing Laura in school, he’s suspended but shows up at the prom and makes a scene. Dan accuses Laura of leading his brother on. Jerry flees and is hurt in a car wreck. Laura confesses to the principal: Jerry is reinstated and Laura is fired. Dan and Laura reconcile.
