Elaine learns her brother has a serious illness and goes to work as an apprentice lathe operator to pay his medical bills. Foreman Jack makes a pass at her but Elaine already has a boyfriend, Lou. However, Lou is two-timing her because “I don’t go for the factory type!” Elaine meets wealthy Marv at a party and hides her socio-economic status from him but Jack reveals the truth. Elaine moves to another city and is hired as a waitress. Marv tracks her down and brings her home because her mother and brother need her. He also says his family was not always rich and he wants to marry Elaine.
