Romantic Hearts #6
In "I Hated Men," Ross Andru’s dynamic art brings to life Lora’s sudden shift from a mundane romance with George to a whirlwind of tension and self-discovery at a summer resort. When a storm brings her into the orbit of the guarded Hank and the wealthy Harvey, her choices are tested—especially after Hank’s sharp words about gold-diggers and Harvey’s dismissive remark about fairy tales. The emotional stakes rise as Lora confronts her own expectations, and the story’s quiet intensity is perfectly captured in Dick Beck’s moody cover.

Lora, tired of her boring boyfriend George, takes a job as a waitress at a fancy summer resort. Sheltering from a storm, she meets cynical Hank in a beach cabin and sparks fly. However, Lora begins to date wealthy guest Harvey. Hank says his wife divorced him for “some guy with a big bankroll” and considers Lora a gold-digger as well. However, Harvey says “men in my social position don’t marry waitresses! That’s what happens in fairy tales...” Lora decides to marry Hank instead.
