“Even as a child,” Carol “had no regard for truth and honesty,” and as a department store employee she continues to take credit for work others do. She falls in love with her new boss Bruce, even though he warns her that he can't stand liars. Carol mistakenly wins a store slogan contest, but doesn’t admit the error. Bruce breaks up with her as a result, and Carol realizes it must have been his entry that she took credit for. She confesses everything and Bruce forgives her.
