A judge's wife reluctantly agrees to raise his illegitimate baby along with their own son. Years later, after the judge had died, the 'adopted' son kills his brother when his rifle accidentally goes off during a hunting party. He serves six months for manslaughter, but when he gets out, he is shot at from a passing car. Police start to suspect that it was attempted vengeance against the deceased judge and there is doubt if Jack is actually responsible for his brother's death. Ultimately, it is his adopted mother who wants to kill him and his real mother who prevents her from doing it.
