When a shout rings out to stop a thief, he runs into a room where, on impulse, Gaby covers for him. The next day she sees him in a crowd and, again on impulse, introduces him to her fiance. They spend the day together with her fiance's sister and Gaby has second thoughts, worried that he is planning to steal from them. She follows him and discovers he is not a thief, but has been on the run for two years for killing his wife. He didn't kill her, but believes Lucienne may have a connection with the case because of a bracelet he recognizes.
