Maria is haunted by the death of a man she had tried to save following a train accident in a remote area where she was vacationing. Maria's ex-fiance was a surgeon, but his hands had been injured and with no hope of relief due to heavy snow, he knew the man would die within the hour without an operation. Realizing Maria had watched him countless times in the hospital, he convinced her to operate under his guidance. When the man died during the operation, the doctor seemed more worried about his reputation than Maria, so she took the blame.
