Auden Carol seems to have lost his great qualities as an actor, but Kitty is still his biggest fan. She convinces Jill, another nurse, to attend one of his performances. Auden moves about the stage clumsily and ultimately passes out on the stage. At the hospital, it is revealed that he is losing his eyesight and subconsciously he doesn't want to go on living. When he hears Jill, he thinks she is his lost love and Jill pretends to be Shirley so that he will have the will to recover.
